Wii Fit Update

June 9, 2008 1:39 pm

I missed last Saturday night’s Wii Fit session because I went to James’ house to help him build a shed.

We didn’t get very far because between the three of us (Ryan was there too to lend a hand) we didn’t now how to use the auger.

We ended up making a pair of trips to Home Depot for concrete, 20 bags (each trip) of 30kg each. I did my fair share of the lifting and moving of said bags, so that was probably a pretty decent workout right there.

Lunch consisted of about 1,000 calories of Ramen, and I drank too much Coke throughout the day.

When I got home (after a big meal of fajitas at the Chanses) I hit Wii Fit, my initial weigh-in put my Wii Fit age at 55!!!!! And said that I’d put on 4.4lbs. from my previous weight (which put me back over 198lbs.)

Wowzers!

I did a complete working (not skipping any of the exercises I’ve already unlocked) and after that did another Body Test, which made me feel slightly better saying I’d lost 1.1lbs. off the previous weigh-in from before the workout and have my Wii Fit age at 44.

Wii Fit.

I finally got around to starting up with Wii Fit today. I’ve had the game for (I believe) over a week now and hadn’t bothered to crack open the ‘game’ yet.

It was probably the first time I’ve turned on my t.v. for any reason in over a month.

So, like many who’ve had the Wii Fit experience the game told me I’m overweight. I have a BMI of 28.7 (I’m 5′ 10″ and weigh 196lbs.)

Anything over 25 is considered overweight, and here be the formula:

BMI =    ( kg/m² ) (weight in pounds * 703 )
————————————
height in inches²

(stolen from here)

The scariest number though was my ‘Wii Fit Age’, which is based on a number of balance and strength tests that you’re put through. My Wii Fit Age is…[gulp]…43

Yes, I have the body of a 43-year old.

I can be somewhat heartened that I got through most of the exercises without too much difficulty.

The absolute killer being the ‘push-ups/side-plank’ combo, which had me about ready to burst. The lunge strength exercise and yoga tree pose were also pretty tough.

Anyway, I set a target for myself, only now I’ve forgotten exactly what it is, but I think it’s getting my bmi to just below 25 (I believe 24.7 was my target) over the next two months.

So, that’s a target of a 24lb. weight loss over 8 weeks, or 3lbs. per week, which seems rather extreme now that I think about it.

I’ll post results as I remember to.
