Def Leppard

July 25, 2009 5:49 pm

Def Leppard is a really cool name for a band. I never gave them enough credit

Like, who would put ‘deaf’ and ‘leopard’ together in any case, but then change up the spelling like that.

Before ‘Def’ was in mainstream useage, too

Goodbyes (and exercise)

Erin (on hiatus, come back soon!) mentioned that she had Triumph’s ‘Lay it on the Line’ on her MP3 player.

Now, Rik’s the single biggest reason (other than my mom’s constant prodding for me to get a hobby) for playing the guitar (and the reason I play an RGX). He’s also a frightfully awesome singer.

So, last night being in a Triumph-ant mood I exercised (I do that once in a while) and put on some of Stages. I sang along. In the basement. Loud enough that my mom heard. At 3am.

So, to make amends somehow, here’s some Rik:

I can’t sing (but now maybe I can?)

I have the worst voice imaginable. My singing voice is kinda like a 15 year old boy’s who is just going through puberty. It cracks, it changes key/octave on its own (makes it sound like I actually have a range though) and it’s scratchy and terrible.

There’s not one good element to my voice. That’s why I don’t sing. I’m a limited guitarist too, but since it’s not my voice no one’s going to laugh at it as much.

If I started singing then everyone would make me cry by telling me how bad I am.

Enter this: Cubase 5’s Built-In Pitch Correction Plug-in

Now, my DAW doesn’t need an upgrade at all, and if I did upgrade it I’d probably get Guitar Rig 3 as opposed to upgrading to Cubase 5 but this actually does sound neat.

Wait, what am I saying? I’m the guy who records a whole tune’s lead part in the wrong key and doesn’t fix it because he likes one or two things about it. I don’t think I’d have the patience to fix a horrible vocal track a warble at a time.

Edit: Yes, I did start playing in the wrong key. Yes, I kept playing in the wrong key. No, I didn’t notice until I looked at my fingers.
