New music for Sunday

July 27, 2008 10:27 am

Everything I do sounds kind of muddy to me, I don’t know if something I have set on my MIDI controller, but everything has kind of a dull sound to it, actually come to think of it I think my guitar does too, so I’ll have to figure out how make brighter sounds in Cubase.

This is something I just whipped up. It’s made completely with Cubase 4’s built-in synths (Embracer, Monologue and HalionOne). HalionOne has some great built-in sounds.

Neverwinter Nights Radeon invisible characters, missing textures just shadows bug

July 26, 2008 10:05 pm

I upgraded my graphics card recently – I don’t know why, but now I have a spiffy fast Radeon 4870.

So I have a few games installed on my PC, and probably the first that I tried to get up and working was Neverwinter Nights (the first one).

I had a problem though, everything worked fine, except once I started the game all the characters were invisible, lacked textures and all I could see were their shadows.

I searched and searched some more to find the solution, but all I could really find was some advice that suggested the OpenGL calls that were used to draw the textures were deprecated and newer hardware didn’t support it.

Luckily that’s not the case, here’s the solution (link). Hats off to the guy who figured that one out!

If you’re using a Radeon like I am, just enable Catalyst A.I. and set it to advanced. Voila, problem solved.

That reminds me, now I have to undo all the tweaks I did to try and fix the problem in the first place.

What my blog lacks/Friday night company party

July 25, 2008 8:01 pm

Pictures.

El Tucows had it’s summer party today at Polson Pier (formerly The Docks) and it was a blast. Took some photos of the crew but I won’t post them here, it wouldn’t seem appropriate.

Clarke deservedly won the trip to a resort (in Mexico, I believe). He’s the hardest working man in showbiz so I’m really happy for him.

Thursday night I went to BMO’s Summer Boat Cruise, it was on the Yankee-Something, the same boat on which a Tucows friend and his fiancĂ©e will get married.

Met some co-workers’ spouses and their families, so that was nifty. McCallum came out, and of course that was awesome.

Tonight (la la la la la, Tonight)

10:41 am

Tonight’s the Tucows Summer Party, which is happening at some place I’m not sure where. I’m going to get a drive down so I don’t have to know, all I have to do is show up.

Last night was BMO’s Employee Cruise, so of course I went, I was in a group of seven and only JimmyJames’ cousin actually worked at BMO. It was a lot of fun, but I didn’t get to bed till about 1am, I believe and I had to be at work at my regular time.

I’m bringing my camera, so I’ll try and snap a few shots of the Tucrew.

Read this; then read this.

One of the pieces I recorded for the old site has been posted on this site, beemp3.com.

Funny thing is, I never put it there. I wonder who did? But anyway, I’ll link to it directly here.

Truth be told, I don’t have a good memory of recording it, but I know it’s mine.

And to my Artist Page (what?): http://beemp3.com/index.php?q=Gregory+Burns&st=artist

Don’t click the link for the ringtone, it’ll only lead to a pop up ad.
