Not bad/Pretty good. I always like Tom Hanks.
This movie is about a womanizing, drinking southern Congressman who for undisclosed reasons goes to bat to help the people of Afghanistan fight the Russian army, who have invaded for similarly undisclosed (but I supposed a given that oil’s involved) reasons.
There’s some really weird editing here, which tells me the movie was cut to be a more palatable length. Parts of it play like a comedy without laughs (his all-female staff and single-minded carousing ways).
Philip Seymour Hoffman is awesome as a Greek CIA agent. The guy’s amazing in everything he does. He and Anthony Hopkins are my two favourite actors.
Other’n that…let’s see, pretty decent flick.
