Cleaning. Catch my meaning?

October 31, 2007 12:10 pm

I’m back to evening shifts Mon. – Fri. starting November.

I was expecting this for a while, and purposely (stupidly) neglected forming ongoing obligations for weekday nights knowing I’d get moved back at some point. Still, I don’t mind the shifts, less hustle and bustle. Though it does mean my jams with Raoul on Thursdays will have to be postponed till he finds a new job :D

I am in the (far too long) process of cleaning chez Gregoire in expectation of my parents’ arrival this coming weekend. My mom doesn’t like living in filth (I don’t seem to mind) so it’s been a revelation of how much garbage I have.

I’m missing a mic, a pretty nice AKG one that seems to have gone missing somewhere, and a power cable for my Behringer V-Amp, but otherwise, everything’s nicely tucked away neatly on some shelves in the office/alcove area of my apartment.

Once I get everything ship-shape (probably tonight or Thursday depending on how much homework I have) I’ll have my regular Sunday crew over for a movie night.

I’m linking to Sage’s Yellow Heaven blog. I wonder how long he’ll last on the Internet before he offends someone and police/hit squads are dispatched to capture him.

Clap your hands everybody! If you got what it takes, cause the Raptors are back and they’re on the court and they’re not flakes!

11:21 am

Oct. 31st, 2007 – Everyone at work is really, really happy about the Raptors being back on the court I guess. Everyone’s walking around and eating candy. Some people actually dressed up in costumes for the occasion.

7pm EST tonight. Raps and Philly.

Rock on!

Who is giving inaccurate WhoIs? DomainTools is!

October 30, 2007 8:18 am

Well,

Not so much inaccurate, but just not accurate:

DomainTools Exclusive
Registrant Search: “Gregory Burns” owns at least 149 other domains
Registrar History: 3 registrars with 2 drops.
IP History: 8 changes on 8 unique name servers over 3 years.
Whois History: 2 records have been archived since 2007-09-13
Reverse IP: 899,471 other sites hosted on this server.

Whatever :D

Speaking of WhoIs, former Boss Ross had this to say here: Whois May Be Scrapped to Break Deadlock

“What removing the status quo will do is force all of the actors to come together without the benefit of a status quo to fall back on and say, `We are now all screwed. What will we do?’” Rader said. “It will lead to better good-faith negotiations.”

No caffeine makes me feel mean.

October 29, 2007 7:08 am

Okay, so last night’s insomnia made me realize that drinking caffeine and sugar prior to bedtime is dumb.

So in typical Greg fashion I’m going to stop drinking caffeine completely to see if that helps.

I’m a cranky, old man. I’m drinking a V8 right now, we’ll see how long I can hold out on drinking a Coke for.

You bring the orange juice, I’ll bring the jus de pamplemousse

Weekend plans: Clean the place (finally), mom’n pop are coming to stay with me next weekend, so I have to tidy up, throw a lot of stuff out, do laundry and vacuum.

Guitar Rig would sound good at a gig

October 19, 2007 5:03 am

I was fooling around with Guitar Rig v.2 last night and it sounds pretty good. There’s a ton of presets and most styles are emulated pretty nicely.

I was told that it’s fairly noisy, but I’m finding mostly the opposite, it’s less noisy than the real amp would sound. I haven’t tried Amplitube, so I can’t compare the two, but overall I think I’ll be pretty satisfied.

Oh Canada not performed by Stan Ada

Here’s my national anthem with the Vienna Symphonic Library’s trumpet, and assorted Garritan instruments (I really like the tuba).

If you listen, underneath you can hear Massive doing some cool pads.

Hard heavy music no longer does the trick

October 17, 2007 11:22 am

I know I’m getting old because the stuff I used to listen to (thrash, hard rock) is no longer musical to me. I was listening to some last night, and it was like, “Wow, this is hard to listen to.”

Almost as unlistenable as Rush has been for their last few albums ;)

I want to get into orchestration for my own stuff, which is of course much more interesting, thing is, I have no interest in playing guitar anymore. Jimmy James and I jam regular, but I don’t feel creative doing it, it’s enjoyable but I get more of a kick writing a part on guitar and then putting it on paper to get played by a VST.

Weird eh?

Unfortunately my PC maxes out at 2GB, and I’d probably need upwards of 8GB to be comfortable running all the stuff I’d want.

A torrent of Florent, and just because you said ‘please’, Fur Elise

October 16, 2007 5:13 pm

Hey,

I’ve imported some .mid files into Cubase, and here’s the first one, it’s Florent done with Halion Player’s Gooseskin XXL piano and Garritan Personal Orchestra’s ‘Cellos, Basses and Percussion’ multi. I didn’t do any other mixing.

Fur Elise (done on the Arturia Jupiter 8v with some such preset, sorry I forgot which one):
